Truck driving vandals left deep ruts and destroyed signs on the Vasa Pathway Trailhead in Acme, Michigan, in late January. It was the fifth time this season the popular ski trail was deliberately damaged, Vasa volunteer Jim Dombrowski told the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

The ruts in the snow, a foot deep in some places, damaged a two-mile section of the trail. Fortunately, the frozen ground beneath the snow was not torn up, Dombrowski said. But it took crews several hours to repair the damage. Trail signs pulled from the ground and destroyed were in need of replacing.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department officials are investigating. TART Trails Inc., a local outdoor recreation group, is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, according to the newspaper.
