Tandem bicycle riders from seven states attended the recent COWS (Couples on Wheels) tandem rally in Middleton, Wisconsin, as negotiations got under way to bring the Midwest Tandem Rally (MTR) to the same community next door to Madison in 2012.

The talks were announced by COWS co-presidents Joan and John Laabs of Waupaca (everything in the COWS tandem club is a team effort) during the banquet at the Middleton event in May. Seventy tandem teams (140 riders) participated in the state rally. A thousand teams could attend the Midwest event, which would benefit several communities economically.

This year MTR will be held over the Labor Day weekend in Shipshewana, Indiana. MTR 2011 will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan, during the same weekend in early September. The COWS proposal for Middleton 2012 will be presented for ratification at the Indiana event.

More information on the COWS can be found at www.couplesonwheels.com.

Cow bells rang as wedding bells at the recent COWS (Couples on Wheels) Tandem Rally in Middleton, Wisconsin. CJ Hartman and Phil Gredler of Janesville were married after being welcomed by the COWS attending the rally. Here they deposit the trail fee as they start their wedding ride from Middleton to Mineral Point, decked out in COWS jerseys. Gedler is planning to compete in the Wisconsin Ironman this September.
